Misuse of County Resources Slap in the Face of Taxpayers

Dear Editor,
The use of county resources to place thank-you signs at libraries promoting Commissioners Bolin and Nelson are a slap in the face to the taxpayers of Brevard County. I counted no less than six signs at the SunTree library, each placed in high traffics areas, including the front checkout desk.
While libraries are important, the failure of these two Commissioners to properly prioritize and manage the budget during the last three years is one reason the libraries now face the cuts they do.
Bolin and Nelson continue to squander taxpayer dollars on things like $9.6 million no-bid AT&T contracts, real estate scams like the Blue Crab Cove purchase, and ill-fated new construction projects like the Merritt Island Community Center the county won’t have the budget to staff.
Because Bolin and Nelson failed to spend wisely in past years as revenues declined, we face drastic shortfalls this year. Taxpayers should hold on tight to their wallets, because now they speak of “alternative sources of revenues”, which is code for raising taxes and fees.
Government must adapt to the recession like the rest of us, and those who put us in this predicament must be held accountable in the upcoming elections.
